Study visit and workshop in Thailand for Copyrights Offices on exchanging best practices in the management of copyrights and related rights

The ECAP III Project organised a sub-regional study visit and workshop in Thailand for Copyrights Offices on exchanging best practices in the management of copyrights and related rights. (Activity C2.1.AW1.KH-LA-MM-MY-TH-VN)

Based on the current practices on copyrights administration and management available in the ASEAN region, ECAP III, in close co-operation with the Thai Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), organised a sub-regional study visit/workshop in Thailand on the exchange of possible best practices in the administration of copyright and related rights by Copyright Offices. The event was conducted in conjunction with the first Thai Creative Economic Forum hosted by Thai authorities in Bangkok on 28 – 30 November 2010.

During this study visit and workshop, participants from ASEAN Member States’ Copyright Offices in Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Malaysia and Vietnam were invited to witness Thai experiences on the management of Copyrights, discuss on the promotion of Copyrights and related Rights and exchange their respective experiences and challenges for the development, the protection and the management of Copyright and related rights in their respective countries. The event, besides presentations from Thai relevant administrations, also benefited from the presentation of Regional Representatives from the USPTO on WCT and WPPT compliance and the Korean Copyright Commission regarding the Korean recent experience and successes on Copyright promotion and protection. Representatives from the private sector (IP practitioners, local CMOs and the IFPI) were also invited to interact with the participants

 

This event has shown the importance but also challenges faced of Copyright promotion and emphasized further needs for assistance and networking in the targeted countries. The ECAP III will use the conclusion of the event to build on the networking of Copyright Offices and stake-holders in the region and propose relevant supporting activities to be implemented during the project
