Intellectual Property Exhibition "The King's 80th Birthday Anniversary Intellectual Property Grand Exhibition", 16-18 November 2007, Bangkok

Ats part of the celebrations to mark the 80th Bbirthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibhol Adulyadej of Thailand, an intellectual property exhibition was jointly organised by ECAP II and the Thai Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of the Ministry of Commerce at the Siam Paragon Shopping Mall in Bangkok from 16 to 18 November 2007. The event was opened by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on 17 November 2007.  During the opening ceremony, Dr Friedrich Hamburger, Ambasasador- Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Thailand presented HRH with a special gift showcasing an example of partnership between European and Thai GI (Geographical Indication) producers. The gift, representing an initiative under the ECAP II GI twinning launched  in 2006, consisted of a bottle of Dom Péerignon champagne packaged in Lamphun  brocade Thai silk, registered in September 2007 as the world's first GI for silk in the world. 

The event was aimed at promoting intellectual property rights, with an emphasis on innovation and geographical indications. The King’s own national and international patents were also highlighted.

During the exhibition over 200 exhibitors showcased IP -protected products, together with GI products from France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain, as well as from Thailand and other ASEAN countries.
