The last ECAP II Regional and National Committee Meetings for Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam were held in Bangkok on 15 and 16 November 2007. During these annual meetings, senior officials from the ASEAN countries’ Intellectual Property Offices, the ASEAN Secretariat, the European Commission, the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) took stock of the outcome of ECAP II activities implemented in 2007 and during the entire duration of the programme. During the ECAP II Regional Committee in particular, special reports were delivered regarding some major activities initiated under the ECAP II programme such as the implementation of the ASEAN Trade Mark database, the use of a comprehensive IP Ressource Management Audits  to allow some IP Offices to target more financial autonomy for faster development, the creation of a regional network on IP Education and  teaching under the AUN as well as the development of comprehensive national legislations and initiatives for the protection and promotion of Geographical Indications (GIs) in the majority of ASEAN countries.

A cocktail closing the event was also the occasion to celebrate the registration of  most recent Thai and European Geographical Indications registered in Thailand, namely Nanglae Pineapple, Chiangrai Phulae Pineapple, Sakon Dhavapi Haang Golden Aromatic Rice, Mae Jaem Teen Jok Fabric, Brunello di Montalcino (Italy), Cognac (France), Doi Chaang Coffee, Chaiya Salted Eggs, Lamphun Brocade Thai Silk, Praewa Kalasin Thai Silk and Thung Kula Rong-Hai Thai Hom Mali Rice with the Director General of the Thai Department of Intellectual Property remitting to GI representatives the GI registration titles.
