Expert Mission on Geographical Indications (GIs), 5-9 October 2007, Hanoi

Ms. Ana Soeiro, Portuguese GI expert undertook a mission to Hanoi to meet with Vietnamese agencies and stake-holders involved in the development of Geographical Indications to assess the current GI system in Vietnam and to provide advices on the administration and control of GIs in general as well as regarding two Vietnamese GIs, namely Phu Quoc fish sauce and Binh Thuan dragon fruit, selected as pilot products in the  framework of future Vietnamese GI applications at the EU. This mission was also used to prepare a second mission to be undertaken on 8 to 13 November 2007 in Ho Chi Minh City and GI on site locations in Phu Quoc Island and Bin Thuan province by Mrs Soeiro accompanied by Vietnamese officials form the NOIP and the Ministry of Agriculture.
