Exhibition of IPR and Counterfeit Products, 11-14 November 2006, Ho Chi Minh City

As part of “APEC Trade Fair 2006”, an exhibition on IPR and Counterfeit Products was co-organised by ECAP II and the Market Control Department (MCD) of the Ministry of Trade of Vietnam from 11 to 14 November at Tao Dan Cultural Park (District 1), Ho Chi Minh City.  The Trade Fair was opened by Ms. Truong My Hoa, Vice-president of Vietnam,  Mr. Vu Mao, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Board of the National Assembly, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Vice-chairperson of People’s Committee of HCMC.

The over 200 sqm  exhibition aimed at raising the public awareness about counterfeiting issues and educating local consumers to differentiate between genuine and fake products.  Over 450 counterfeit products seized by MCD sub-department officials across the country (Ho Chi Minh City, An Giang, Gia Lai, Tien Giang, Dong Nai, Da Nang, Can Tho and Khanh Hoa) were exhibited. In addition, right-holders including Canon, Nike, Gedeon Richter, Oxford University Press and Syngenta were also part of the Exhibition counterfeit & genuine products sold in the local market in a aim to improve  consumer awareness   

During the four-day exhibition, several thousand visitors & local consumers had the opportunity to learn more about IP protection and gather from MCD’s officials and right- holders information on how to distinguish genuine products from fake ones to avoid wrong purchasing.
