To prepare future GI applications for silk in Thailand and to follow-up and the previous public awareness Seminar organised on 21 April 2006 in Khon Kaen, the Queen Sirikit Institute of Sericulture under the Thai Ministry of Agriculture organised a workshop on Silk Production and Geographical Indications (GIs) in Chiangmai on 6-8 August 2006. The purpose of the workshop was to disseminate legal and administrative information on GIs to 70 silk officials from across the country and to list and analyse potential GI application prospects in various Thai provinces. Stephane Passeri, ECAP II Programme Administrator, spoke about GI protection in ASEAN and Ms Wachara Chamnanwong, Head of GI group, Trademark Office of the Department of Intellectual Property explained the process of GI application in Thailand.
