Study Visit to Europe on Establishment and Administration of Collecting Societies 11-15 April 2005, Budapest and London

Responding to the Thai government’s request for technical assistance in relations to setting up collecting societies for copyright management, ECAP II organised a study visit for a Thai delegation to Hungary and the UK. Hungary and the UK have been chosen because these two countries provide two different types of experiences with collecting societies. Based on these European models, the Thai authorities could use the expertise as a basis for Thailand to accommodate a possible legal framework to manage royalties collection. The Thai delegation was headed by Mr. Watana Ratanawichit, Councillor of State and Chairman of the Committee for the Consideration of the Draft Copyright Act, Office of the Council of State. Other delegates were Ms Siriporn Iamthongchai, legal officer, Secretary of the Committee for the Consideration of the Draft Copyright Act, Office of the Council of State; Ms Urawee Ngowroongrueng, Director of the Copyright Office, Department of Intellectual Property and Ms Jittima Srithaporn, senior legal officer from the Copyright Office, DIP. Ms Jantratawil Boonyatikarn from MCT-Phonorights which represents authors, composers, music publishers and record companies also joined study visit.
