Seminar on IP Valuation and Commercialisation for SMEs, Bangkok, 17-18 March 2004

This being one of the first public fora in this field new to Thailand, the event attracted over 220 participants from businesses, banks, consultancy firms, government agencies dealing with research and development and law firms.  "I look forward to applying the valuable information gathered from this forum to strengthen my business," said participant Kanokwan Moolasena.  Another participant, Sasi Klongpayaban, from the Bank for SMEs said what she learnt would contribute to her work at the Bank in advising Thai SME operators who "still don't quite understand and appreciate the value of IP assets".  Among the distinguished speakers at the event were: valuation expert from the UK, Mr Kelvin King; President of the ASEAN IP Association, Ms. Lorna Patajo Kapunan; Marc Peikert, Head of R&D, Footwear Business Unit of W.L. Gover & Associates; Ms Udomsri Nathikanchanalab, Secretary-General of the Thai Valuers Association; Dr Wantanee Chongkum, Director of Innovation Project Management Department, the National Innovation Agency. Mr King noted that there should be follow-up activities to the awareness raised as a result of this forum, during which he received "very good questions" from participants.  "Outside the US and worldwide, there is very little awareness of the valuation of IP or its proper exploitation," he said.
