Launch of Strategic Modernisation Plan/ Overall ECAP II Work Plan for Laos 3 May 2005, Vientiane

Dr. Bountiem Phissamay, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and President of STEA, presided over the ceremony to launch ECAP II national programme for Laos on 3 May 2005. In his remarks for the occasion, Dr. Bountiem noted that the protection of intellectual property rights has increasingly become an issue for developing countries in the context of free trade and globalisation.

ECAP II will provide technical assistance in Laos PDR’s efforts to develop an intellectual property system through promulgation of relevant laws, decrees and regulations.

Also attending the ceremony were Mr Nheune Sisavad, Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property, Standardization and Metrology, STEA ECAP II Administrator Stephane Passeri, and Mr Sandro Cerrato, Charge d’Affaires, Delegation of the European Commission to Laos PDR.
