At the occasion of a two-day seminar on GIs organised with the support of the French Embassy In Indonesia, the CIRAD, the Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (ICCRI) and the Dinas Perkebunan of the Province of Bali, Stephane Passeri, ECAP II Programme Administrator, was invited to present the current situation and expected developments of GI protection in ASEAN countries. This event also served as an occasion to study the development of the Indonesian GI legal framework and to progress on potential GIs in Bali such as the Kintamani Bali Arabica Coffee. Among participants attending the seminar were coffee producers from Farmers Organization for Kintamani GI protection, farmers from Flores as well as officials from the Indonesian DGIPR and the Ministry of Agriculture as well as experts from the French CIRAD and INAO and coffee traders. An on-site visit in Kintamani area on 13 December emphasized the commitment of local communities in developing GI products as well as the importance of on site technical assistance to support future GIs in their early stages of development .
