Study Visit on IP Enforcement, 24-28 September 2007, Bangkok (Thailand)

ECAP II, in co-operation with the Thai Central Intellectual Property & International Trade Court (CIPITC), co-organised a study visit to Thailand on IP enforcement for a joint delegation of 20 judges and enforcement officials from Cambodia and Lao PDR.  During this five-day study visit, delegates learnt from the Thai experience in setting-up a specialised IP judiciary, general practices regarding IP enforcement and the importance of strong networking between enforcement agencies. Besides workshops with the CIPITC, the Thai Supreme Court and the public prosecutor office, the delegates also exchanged information and experiences with Mr. Pierre Faucherand, Minister Counsellor, EC Delegation to Thailand Regional Advisor in Asia for Customs matters,  the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), other Thai IP enforcement agencies including the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Royal Thai Customs Department, the Economic and Cyber-Crime Division (Ecotec) as well as representatives of Thai and European right-holders. This event was also the opportunity  for enforcement officers from neighboring countries to exchange useful information and develop networking  in the fight against  counterfeiting and  piracy.
