ECAP III supported the 3rd AUNIP Annual Conference : a kick-off event for ECAP III’s support for Intellectual Property education in ASEAN (Activity C4.1.AW1.ASEAN)

Singapore, 16 – 19 November 2010

With the objective of strengthening Intellectual Property education in the ASEAN region, ECAP III joined hands with the ASEAN University Network Intellectual Property (AUNIP) and with an the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to organise the 3rd ASEAN University Network Intellectual Property (AUNIP) Conference & Workshop on 16-19 November 2010 in Singapore.

Within the framework of this event, three activities took place (please click on the event to download the presentations):

The 3rd AUNIP Annual Conference, 16 – 17 November 2010,
AUNIP Board Meeting, 17 November 2010; and
University Intellectual Property Workshop on 18 – 19 November 2010

Comprising 26 members, the AUNIP's main responsibility is to enhance IP knowledge in the region through the organisation of workshops/conferences and establishing relationship with other IP networks. Together with ECAP III, the AUNIP aims to strengthen its co-operation among its member universities, to establish a regional network towards a more developed IP academic in the ASEAN region.

Enhancing the regional integration of IP education, the 3rd AUNIP annual conference dealt with current IP issues in ASEAN, together with the discussion of the four-year plan of action aiming to further develop the AUNIP and to address the current challenges. Wide experience and knowledge in the area of intellectual property management and technology licensing in universities were shared by several experts from ASEAN, Europe, Japan and the United States.

The workshop on university IP policy enabled participants to make progress in developing a regional IP policy template for ASEAN universities. Following the workshop, member universities have a solid framework and guidelines to strengthen IP management and technology transfer.

Hosted by Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the AUNIP annual conference and the workshop on IP policies welcomed more than 50 participants.
